lyrics

when i came to this country
i was just a boy
barely fourteen summers old
and on my own

i came across the border
with a gun-shot wound
they gave me a blanket
and some hot chocolate too

i was hiding in the cellar
with a broken radio
my brothers joined the resistance
and they never came back home

soldiers were marching
behind the tanks
machine-guns firing
from across the river banks

and my mother crying
"where are my sons*
well, i was the youngest
and too young to be armed

my father in prison
a prison he built
they called him a traitor
who should be killed
and they called him a traitor
who should be killed

so half a year later
i was on the run
with everyone divided
no war can be won
and everyone divided
and no war can be won

when i came to this country
i was just a boy
when i came to this country
i was just a boy
