Heavy Heart
04:24
|
|||
made it all the way through christmas
into a spectacular new year
just hoping a few things are gonna change now
but you don't know when
& where they're gonna take you
sometimes you just gotta learn to live with a heavy heart
even a bird will sing in its cage
finding the words & having to feel
is the hardest part
but once you get that down
you can fill a whole page
hurray
the carnival is over
and i'm still trying to find a job
somehow you gotta make a living
if you only knew how
& what else you gotta give 'em
& how can you sit by the lake
in the most beautiful spring weather
and keep squeezing tears out of your eyes
when was the last time you invited love over?
when was the last time she replied?
oh my
it's been a while
and when it all seems to come together
before drifting back apart
when you push open those shutters
that kept you in the dark-
just groping in the dark
sometimes you just gotta learn to live with a heavy heart
even a bird will sing in its cage
finding the words
and having to feel is the hardest part
but once you get that down
you can fill a whole page
hurray
made it all the way through christmas
into a spectacular new year
just hoping a few things are gonna change now

Lament

when i came to this country
i was just a boy
barely fourteen summers old
and on my own
i came across the border
with a gun-shot wound
they gave me a blanket
and some hot chocolate too
i was hiding in the cellar
with a broken radio
my brothers joined the resistance
and they never came back home
soldiers were marching
behind the tanks
machine-guns firing
from across the river banks
and my mother crying
"where are my sons*
well, i was the youngest
and too young to be armed
my father in prison
a prison he built
they called him a traitor
who should be killed
and they called him a traitor
who should be killed
so half a year later
i was on the run
with everyone divided
no war can be won
and everyone divided
and no war can be won
when i came to this country
i was just a boy
when i came to this country
i was just a boy

Mountain Shanty

|

i had to get out of town for a while
head up to the mountains
clear my head in the sky
my head in the sky
so many questions
and so little time
i don't want to leave-love
and don't want to say goodbye
but if you're a sailor
from head to toe
you'll always hear these old winds blow
and old winds blow
now that i've sailed many a deep seas
but none could fathom
my love for thee
my love for thee
so be it on a mountain
or be it at sea
i want you to know
you'll always be there with me
be there with me
i had to get out of town for a while
head up to mountains
clear my head in the sky
